Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd is based at Cairndow, at the head of Loch Fyne on the West Coast of Scotland.

From this stunning location we have been supplying our customers with Scotland's finest fish and seafood for over 40 years.  From our internationally renowned Oyster Bar Restaurant and through the products we sell globally, we pride ourselves on provenance, quality and sustainability.

Our team at Cairndow fulfill a wide variety of roles from processing staff to restaurant and retail staff, along with administration and sales.  We employ over 125 people and have developed strong links with the local communities.   • Job Title: PROCESSING OPERATIVE (Dayshift)
  • Contract Type: Permanent.
  • Rate of Pay: £10.05 per hour.   
  • Overtime: Paid at x1.5 basic rate for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
  • Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week (Full time).   
  • Other Hours: Flexible and part time hours are also available.
  • Typical Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday 7.45am to 4.45pm / Friday 7.45am to 1.45pm. 
  • Other Info: Public transport is available from / to Dunoon.  

Job Description:

We require additional staff to join our PRODUCTION TEAM to work in a variety of areas, assisting with the preparation, slicing and packing of smoked salmon for the retail trade.  The ideal candidates need to be committed, reliable and able to work well as part of a team.  Previous experience in food handling is not essential, as training will be provided. 

We have a range of positions available in the following Production Areas:

FILLETING/SMOKEHOUSE

Using Global GAP approved salmon which is supplied to us already gutted, our Filleting Team hand and machine fillet our salmon. Once filleted, our team then cure the salmon before washing and loading it into our smoking kilns.

SLICING ROOM – this area consists of 4 different sections:

Trimming: works as a small production line with our team trimming, removing pin bones and grading the salmon.

Slicing Machines: involves the operation of 2 slicing machines; one for cutting strips of salmon along the length of the fillet and a second machine for slicing a diagonal cut.

Slicing Hall: consists of a large conveyor system with separate stations; each station has its own table and scale.  All of our salmon packs are produced at these stations, before being placed onto a roller track and then moved into our Vacuum Packing section. 

Vacuum Packing: all of our products are bagged, vacuum packed and then bar-coded in this section before being moved through to our Despatch area.

YARD – The Yard Team operate a wide variety of equipment within the Yard areas, including counterbalance forklift trucks to load and unload delivery lorries, as well as assisting with the traffic flow through the Goods In/Out areas, plus carrying out a range of checks and cleaning duties.

  • Rate of Pay: £10.05 per hour.   
  • Overtime: Paid at x1.5 basic rate for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
  • Nightshift Allowance: £180.00 per week.
  • Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week (full time).   
  • Typical Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday 5.00pm to 2.00am / Friday 2.00pm to 8.00pm. 
  • Other Info: Due to the shift pattern, own transport is essential.    

Job Description:

We require an additional Team Member to join our NIGHTSHIFT TEAM, to carry out a variety of hygiene/cleaning tasks, plus assist with the production of smoked salmon for the retail trade.   

The successful applicant will need to be committed, reliable and able to work well as part of a small team and without supervision at times.  Duties will involve some heavy lifting, therefore experience with safe manual handling and the ability to carry out a physical role is essential.  You will also need to have a flexible approach to your duties and working hours, as overtime may be required from time to time.  Previous experience is not essential, as training will be provided. 

Duties will include:

  • Stripping and assembling production machinery for cleaning purposes.
  • Cleaning production areas.
  • Operation of box washing machine.
  • Operating smoking kilns.

  • Other Info: Due to the working requirements of the role, full driving licence and your own transport would be beneficial.  Occasional weekend working, plus some early starts/late finishes as and when required.    

Job Description:

We require a highly reliable, enthusiastic and self motivated person to join our AQUACULTURE TEAM, to assist in the day to day operation of the Oyster Farm and Depuration Centre.   

The successful candidate will be able to work well within a small, focused team. Previous aquaculture experience, with transferable related skills and qualifications preferable, however full training through in-house and external training providers will be provided. 

The role will involve a combination of working outside in all types of weather conditions, as well as inside the site's Oyster Farm and Depuration Centre. 

Day to day duties and responsibilities will vary and include:

  • Grading, purification and packing shellfish.
  • Operation of equipment for the processing and packing of shellfish.
  • A range of cleaning and housekeeping duties throughout the site.
  • Assisting with the aquaculture site maintenance.
